The term "chinks" is a regional designation in Central Asia for steep chalk and limestone cliffs and escarpments, which can reach heights of up to 350 meters. The chinks of Ustyurt were formed through marine abrasion processes when the Caspian Sea receded, leaving behind these monumental geological formations.
