Employees of protected natural areas have photographed flowers blooming in winter cold conditions. Among these are Crocus korolkowii in the Surkhan State Nature Reserve and Colchicum kesselringii Regel and Taraxacum officinale in the "Yukori Tupalang" National Nature Park.
The Colchicum kesselringii Regel, listed in Uzbekistan's Red Book, is endemic to Central Asia and has a declining population. It is found as isolated specimens or in small populations on rocky and gravelly slopes, ranging from the foothills to the upper mountain belts.
The rare plant Crocus korolkowii is also endemic to Central Asia. Inside the flower are three red stigmas, which are a source of spice highly valued in both cooking and medicine. This species grows on fine-grained slopes.
