An attempt to sell a Red Book-listed Bird was stopped in the Khorezm Region

An operational group from the Inspectorate for Environmental Control of the Khorezm region, in collaboration with the regional prosecutor's office and the National Guard, conducted another environmental raid.

During the raid, K.R., a resident of the Khazarasp district of the Khorezm region, was detained while attempting to sell a rare bird, the lesser kestrel, listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan, through social media.

For information: The lesser kestrel is a migratory species listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan and the IUCN Red List as near-threatened. It is found in the Western Tien-Shan and Pamir-Alay mountains, the expansive Kyzylkum desert, and the valleys of the Amu Darya and Zarafshan rivers.

As a result of this incident, an administrative protocol was drawn up against the violator under Article 92 of the Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Administrative Responsibility, and a fine of 5 BCV (1 million 875 thousand sums) was imposed.

The seized lesser kestrel was transferred to the Khorezm National Nature Park for a health checkup. After receiving the necessary treatment, the bird will be released back into the wild.
