A group of large gerbils appeared in the frame of a camera trap installed in the "Aktag-Tamdi" State Reserve, under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change.
The great gerbil is a large rodent with a body length of 150–200 mm. It inhabits areas with sandy, clay, and gravelly soils. It feeds on the green parts of herbaceous plants and shrub branches. In autumn, it collects large stocks of saxaul branches, camelthorns, and Salsola, which it hides in special storerooms.
For information: The "Aktag-Tamdi" State Nature Reserve was established in February 2022 in the Tamdi district of the Navoi region. The reserve is home to 14 species of mammals, 22 species of birds, and 7 species of reptiles. Of these, 16 species of animals are listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan.
