The purpose of the validation workshop was to discuss 30 developed adaptation measures for five transboundary river basins in Central Asia: Chon-Kemin/Chu, Zarafshan, Isfayramsay, Shohimardon and Murghob.
The validation workshop brought together stakeholders from national and regional levels of government, including the relevant departments of ecology, economics, agriculture, and water resources management, as well as basin water management associations from five Central Asian countries to discuss the results of climate risk assessment, measures to adapt and reduce them, and ensure compliance with regional and national priorities. The participants provided final comments and recommendations that would improve the measures, making them more effective and relevant to regional conditions.
During the seminar, the results of the capacity-building, cross-border cooperation support, and climate resilience measures in Central Asia, that were carried out in 2024, were summarized.
The current climate risks and adaptation measures that are necessary for the sustainability of the region were also discussed. The contribution of each country was highlighted, and participants expressed their views on improving existing adaptation strategies. It was decided to improve these measures, which will make it possible to respond more effectively to climate challenges. The implementation of the updated adaptation measures is expected in 2025.
It is noted that the validation workshop was an important step towards strengthening the resilience of the region and the cooperation of Central Asian countries in response to climate challenges.
