National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan

The Convention unites more than 50 countries in Europe, North America, and Central Asia and serves as a platform for solving one of the most acute environmental challenges of our time—transboundary air pollution. 

Uzbekistan's participation in the session underscores the country's serious intentions to consider joining the Convention. This step is in line with the environmental and economic priorities of the republic, as well as its strategic plans for the transition to a "green" economy.

During the session, the delegation of Uzbekistan presented the main directions of the national environmental policy and discussed the possibility of joining the Convention. 

"Air quality is a key element of sustainable development. We are interested in applying international experience to address the environmental challenges facing Uzbekistan. Joining the Convention will open up new opportunities for the implementation of national environmental initiatives", said Aziza Sharafova, a specialist at the Ministry of Ecology. "An important context for Uzbekistan's participation is that 2025 has been declared the year of "Environmental Protection and Green Economy" in the country",  she added. 

It is noteworthy that Uzbekistan has actively participated in international events this year, including a sub-regional seminar on climate and air quality in Astana and meetings of the Convention's working groups in Paris. This cooperation has become an important stage in preparing the country for potential accession to the Convention, which will provide Uzbekistan with access to advanced international methods and technologies for air quality monitoring, scientific research, and pollution reduction tools.

At the end of the 44th session of the Executive Body, Uzbekistan will continue to work on documents, assessing all aspects of possible accession to the Convention.
