For reference: The Lower-Amudarya State Biosphere Reserve was founded on August 26, 2011, on the territory of the Beruniy and Amudarya districts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The fauna of the reserve is represented by 36 species of animals, 4 of which are rare. Bactrian deer, wolves, jungle cats, hares, and other animals live here. About 8-10 reed cats are found on each site.
The jungle cat, or reed cat, is a predatory mammal of the feline family, outwardly resembling a lynx. The reed cat is larger than any domestic cat: body length 54-94 cm, tail up to 30 cm, weight reaches 8-12 kg. It feeds on birds, rodents, and rabbits. It is found in the coastal zone of the rivers of Central Asia, in the middle and lower reaches of the Amu Darya, in reed beds and forests.
