The event was attended by ECO Secretary General Asad M. Khan, Deputy Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of Uzbekistan, Obidjon Kudratov, and representatives of ECO member states.
During the meeting, the participants presented their reports on the state of the environment of the ECO member countries and discussed further steps to strengthen regional cooperation in ensuring environmental stability.
"The region of the Economic Cooperation Organization is home to some of the most unique ecosystems in the world, as well as the largest reserves of water and biodiversity. But this is a region with significant environmental vulnerability. Extreme weather events such as droughts and floods remind us that we need to work together to protect the environment and ensure a sustainable future.
Uzbekistan has always been a supporter of cooperation in environmental issues. The Economic Cooperation Organization has already proven its value as a platform for dialogue and cooperation, but it must also develop in order to solve the growing environmental problems of our time", O. Kudratov said at the meeting.
During the discussions, specific initiatives were proposed aimed at implementing joint environmental projects, including the development of renewable energy sources, combating desertification, rational use of water resources and conservation of biodiversity.
Special attention was paid to the need to share best practices and technologies, as well as to strengthen scientific research in the field of climate change. Representatives of the member countries stressed the importance of strengthening coordination of efforts through ECO mechanisms to more effectively confront environmental challenges.
