Uzbekistan is actively preparing for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) (COP29), which will be held on November 11-22, 2024, in Baku, Azerbaijan.

For information: Every year, the countries that have joined the UNFCCC come together to assess progress and discuss multilateral measures to combat climate change. To date, 198 countries have joined the Convention.

Within the framework of COP29, the Government of Uzbekistan will present a National Pavilion that reflects the traditional principles and technologies underlying Uzbek culture, history and unique environment. The pavilion, modeled on a traditional Uzbek courtyard — hovli, will convey the atmosphere of the courtyard, which has been the center of every Uzbek house for generations. Here, nature becomes a part of the house: green spaces covered with vines create shade and comfort, and traditional materials and ancient construction methods embody the ideals of environmental friendliness and sustainability.

The program of the two-week Conference includes High-level Plenary sessions, the Summit of World Leaders on Combating Climate Change, executive board meetings, coordination meetings, the Youth Climate Forum, the World Climate Action Summit, the 17th Nairobi Work Programme Focal Point Forum, round tables, and seminars on topics such as finance, investment, trade, green energy, technology and innovation, health, human development and youth, food, agriculture, water resources, nature and biodiversity, transport and tourism, gender equality, etc.

A number of initiatives are planned for COP29, including the organization of more than 20 events within the framework of the National Pavilion with the participation of the Ministry of Water Management, the Ministry of Energy, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, as well as a number of bilateral and multilateral meetings and the signing of agreements with regional and international partners and donors.

In particular, the following main events are planned to be held within the framework of the National Pavilion:

— The official signing ceremony of the International Youth Strategy in cooperation with the International Public Foundation "Zamin" with the participation of representatives of all participating countries, as well as the presentation of environmental educational projects and initiatives.

— Holding a meeting of the Ministers of the Turkic Environmental Forum of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries.

— Holding an event on the Declaration on Climate Migration (Silk Road Declaration) with the member countries of the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM), which is planned as a joint initiative of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

— Holding an event of a Multi-partner Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region. The event will be organized jointly with the UNDP coordination office in Uzbekistan.

In general, the active participation of the national delegation of Uzbekistan in the negotiation sessions and other main and subsidiary meetings of the conference is planned.
