A Turkmen caracal was caught in a camera trap installed on the territory of "South Ustyurt" National Natural Park under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change.
For reference: “South Ustyurt” National Nature Park, founded in November 2020, is located in the Kungrad district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. There are 149 species of animals, 36 of which are listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan.
In particular, the Turkmen caracal is included in the Red Book of Uzbekistan and Appendix I of CITES in the status of an endangered mosaic-widespread subspecies. It is found on the Ustyurt Plateau, in the lower reaches of the Amu Darya, and in other areas. It lives in areas of the desert with bumpy and fixed sands, less often found in desolate foothills and tugai forests.
