For information: The "Aralkum" National Nature Park was established on March 4, 2022, in the Muynak district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The region is home to more than 20 species of animals, 4 of which are listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan.
As a rare endangered species, saigas are listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan, the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and Appendix II of CITES. Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have signed a memorandum of understanding on the conservation and restoration of the Saiga habitat and an intergovernmental agreement on their breeding.
In order to protect saigas, measures are being taken to strengthen the fight against poaching, improve territorial protection, reduce the impact of border barriers and the oil and gas sector, road transport infrastructure, cross-border cooperation, and other activities aimed at their preservation.
