Tolai hare (desert hare or sandstone hare) is a medium–sized representative of the genus of hares, whose body length is 39–55 cm and weight is 1.5—2.8 kg. During the spring registration, 32 tolai hares were recorded in the reserve.
For information: the "Aktau-Tamdy" State Reserve with an area of 40,000 hectares was established in 2022 and unites unique natural complexes and objects of the southern part of the Kyzylkum desert on the territory of the Tamdyn district, protecting the ecosystem of the region. The reserve is home to rare endangered animals and plants.
Of the vertebrates, the reserve is home to 14 species of mammals, 21 species of birds, and 6 species of reptiles. Of these, 13 species of animals are listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan.
This state reserve also creates conditions for preventing the growth rate of desertification, air pollution by sand and dust particles, and other negative factors affecting dramatic climate change.
