The UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution initiated by Uzbekistan: "Promoting sustainable forest management, including afforestation and reforestation, on degraded lands, including in arid areas, as an effective solution to environmental problems."
The document is based on the concept of the national project "Yashil Makon", implemented in our country on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, aimed at greening the republic. The resolution also reflects the key proposals of the head of our state on effectively countering climate change and combating land degradation, announced during the 78th session of the General Assembly and the 28th UN Climate Conference.
"At the initiative of the head of our state, a lot of work is being done to solve environmental problems, in particular, to turn the Aral Sea region into a "green zone" and prevent desertification", said Minister of Ecology Aziz Abdukhakimov. "It is very important for us that these proposals are taken into account at the international level. This resolution will allow our country to attract various grants, advanced technical means, experienced scientists, and cooperate with large foundations and international organizations to solve urgent environmental problems", added the minister.
The resolution was co-sponsored by more than 100 member countries, including all Central Asian countries, Azerbaijan, Austria, Belgium, Bahrain, Hungary, Germany, Italy, Jordan, Indonesia, Qatar, China, KSA, Latvia, Mongolia, Morocco, Oman, UAE, Pakistan, Portugal, Russia, Republic of Korea, Turkey, France and other countries representing various regions of the world.
It is worth noting that the resolution reveals the economic, social and environmental benefits of sustainable forest management and tree planting. Their contribution to increasing biodiversity, mitigating the effects of climate change and air pollution, and achieving sustainable development goals, including poverty eradication and food security, will be emphasized.
