Uzbekistan strengthens long-term cooperation with the United Nations

During the meeting, the Ministry provided information on the large-scale environmental reforms carried out by the Government of the country. In particular, the creation of the Climate Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Central Asian University of the Environmental and Climate Change Studies (Green University), the international expo hub of climate technologies in the Aral Sea region, as well as the results achieved within the framework of Uzbekistan's Green Cities Rating project.
The foreign side highly appreciated the innovative initiative—the green cities rating system, which encourages cities throughout Uzbekistan and prioritizes environmentally friendly practices.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the parties discussed issues such as the organization of a side event dedicated to the environmental situation in the Aral Sea region at the UN Climate Change Conference in Baku in November this year and the intensification of cooperation within the framework of Phase 2 of the Trust Fund for the Aral Sea. It was noted that the global conference in Baku could become a suitable platform for Uzbekistan to fulfill its obligations under the Trust Fund for the Aral Sea.
In addition, the foreign side was informed about the completion of the current Framework Program of Cooperation in 2025 and the development of a new Framework Program by the UN Country Team in Uzbekistan. The Ministry was invited to take an active part in forming a new cooperation framework to ensure the integration of the most important environmental priorities.
The meeting resulted in an agreement to further strengthen cooperation in the areas of environmental protection and climate change.
