The talks were attended by Warren Evans, a special senior advisor and climate envoy in the office of the president at ADB, Iskandar Kutbiddinov, Deputy Minister of Ecology, and Suna Park, Adviser to the Minister of Ecology, Director of the National Center for Climate Change.
During the meeting, the program for preparing the Regional Project "From Glaciers to Farms" (G2F) was approved, within the framework of which detailed studies and assessments of climate risks for the Naryn River in the Fergana Valley will be carried out.
The key issues discussed during the meeting were consultations with the government of the country on the proposed G2F regional program aimed at improving water resources management, reducing the risks of droughts and floods, preserving ecosystems, reducing the risk of natural disasters, increasing agricultural productivity, and reducing the cost of recovery after natural disasters. The program will also contribute to the accumulation of data on glaciers and the development of accurate models for predicting their changes.
It is planned that this program will become a priority for the Central Asian region and will be presented at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-29).
Also during the meeting, the country's current climate change reforms were highly appreciated, in particular the creation of the Climate Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Central Asian University for the Study of the Environment and Climate Change, as well as the results achieved within the framework of Uzbekistan's Green Cities Rating project.
In conclusion, the parties agreed on further close cooperation on the implementation of the National Climate Policy, the development of an action plan to support women in the field of climate change, and cooperation in preparation for COP-29.
