The event, chaired by Uzbekistan and the United States, was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Ecology, Energy, and Geology of the Central Asian countries.
At the event's opening, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Central Asia B. Stimmler and Deputy Minister of Ecology of the Republic of Uzbekistan J. Kazbekov.
In his speech, B. Stimmler noted the successes of the past year, informing the participants about the launch of the B5+1 (Business5+1) format in February 2023, which should facilitate cooperation on critical minerals. Also, the importance of opening a regional market for renewable energy sources (RES) and reducing emissions by 84 million tons at the regional level was noted.
In turn, J. Kazbekov noted that in many areas of economy, trade, ecology, and tourism, there is a steady increase in cooperation between the Central Asian countries and the United States.
Mutual interest was noted in continuing cooperation within initiatives launched in desertification, biodiversity conservation, climate change, and natural resource management.
During the meeting, the participants reviewed the draft "Roadmap on Critical Minerals Dialogue C5+1 for 2024-2025", which provides for cooperation in such areas as geological exploration, investments in the mining industry, etc.
The participants of the event also discussed issues of regional water cooperation, desertification, adaptation to climate change, green energy, and biodiversity conservation.
During the dialogue, it was noted that the Central Asian States intend to intensify work in the development and implementation of projects within the framework of the Regional Environmental Protection Program for the Sustainable Development of Central Asia, strengthen environmental cooperation, and create favorable conditions to achieve environmentally oriented SDGs in the region.
Following the event, confidence was expressed that, using collective experience, resources, and political will, the parties can achieve significant success on the way to a greener, more sustainable future for the Central Asian region. The importance of developing and implementing joint projects and programs in the environmental field in the C5+1 format as well as organizing seminars and trainings with the participation of experts from Central Asian countries and the United States was noted.
