During the event, a series of interactive and thematic lectures were held for the participants, which covered a wide range of environmental topics, including: - environmental pollution: types of pollution, causes, and consequences; - climate change: current problems and forecasts for the future; - loss of biodiversity: ecosystem protection strategies.
The lecturers were experts from the Green University research institutes. In addition, the Regional Director of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), who took part in the event, Oliver Avramoski, briefly spoke about the activities of the IUCN and the future plans of the organization.
During the visit, an environmental quiz contest was organized, where participants tested their knowledge. The winners were duly awarded.
On June 28, the participants of the eco-camp were presented with the newly created biodiversity conservation laboratory at Green University, where they got acquainted with the activities and experimental methods of the laboratory.
The laboratory is designed to detect various pollutants in waters, perform various analyses of soil composition, obtain detailed information on a wide range of parameters such as tree size, height, age, vertical, trunk density, changes in the body, determine the amount of oxygen produced during photosynthesis in the leaves of plants and trees, and, using a digital microscope, allow you to determine the composition of the sorted waste.
At the same time, the following topics were touched upon by the youth: - reducing the negative impact of climate change and environmental pollution on children; - Creating a child-friendly version of climate, energy and environmental data; - Expanding access to clean energy for electricity, heating, and other purposes.
Eco-camp participants noted that waste management practices need to be improved in order to mitigate health problems caused by pollution, especially toxic e-waste. Young eco-activists also noted that it is important to assess children's sensitivity to the environment, improve farming methods, and explore alternative methods that can reduce soil pollution.
The International Youth Environmental Camp will last until June 30.
