The lecture was conducted by Professor Randall Abate, Assistant Dean of Environmental Law Studies at George Washington University (USA).
It was attended by teachers and students of the faculties of law and international relations at the universities of Uzbekistan. The mission of the lecture is to provide participants with fundamental knowledge about the principles and practices of effective climate change management. She covered topics such as the causes and effects of climate change, mitigation and adaptation strategies, as well as policy frameworks and international agreements.
"Climate change has been called a "super-wicked" governance challenge because it has deep root causes that are not readily addressed through traditional regulation. It's a transboundary environmental governance challenge like many other international environmental issues, such as stratospheric ozone depletion and biodiversity loss, but it has additional layers of complexity as a social, political, economic, scientific, and human rights challenge. This lecture explores the complex foundations of the climate change crisis and the wide range of public and private governance strategies to address global climate change", said Randall Abate.
It is worth noting that currently, the fight against climate change is becoming one of the priorities of Uzbekistan's state policy, requiring a systematic approach and effective measures to minimize the negative effects of climate change. In this context, it is important to train a new generation of leaders, managers, and experts who can effectively solve important environmental, socio-economic, scientific, and technical problems not only in Uzbekistan, but throughout Central Asia. Opened on behalf of the Head of State, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Green University in Uzbekistan emphasizes the importance of education to address climate change and environmental issues.
To improve the quality of environmental education, the Ministry of Ecology and Green University attract world-class professors and exchange experience with leading universities around the world. The organization of new directions, including a master's degree program in environmental law, and intensive training sessions on key topics such as "International Environmental Law" and "Climate Change Governance", are aimed at stimulating interest in environmental law disciplines.
Following the lecture, the participants got acquainted with the deep causes of climate change, its transboundary nature, and its multilevel consequences. They also explored the fundamentals of the current climate crisis and a wide range of public and private management strategies aimed at combating climate change.
