The plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis reviewed the Law "On Telecommunications", reflecting the importance of adapting to the rapid development of telecommunications networks driven by technological advancements and evolving consumer demands.
In recent years, Uzbekistan has implemented comprehensive measures to promote the use of modern information and communication technologies (ICT) across various sectors. The expansion of telecommunication systems, particularly in remote areas, has positively impacted the affordability of internet services, increasing public access to telecommunications.
The new telecommunications Law is based on best practices from countries with advanced telecommunications markets. It provides a clear framework for regulating the sector, including defining the responsibilities of the regulatory authority to oversee the market and the role of state bodies in promoting its development.
The Law empowers the regulatory body to carry out licensing and authorization procedures, ensure the priority use of telecommunication infrastructure during natural and man-made emergencies, restore and enhance telecommunications services, and establish a fair competitive environment for operators and service providers.
Furthermore, the Law obliges all legal entities and individuals to comply with regulatory documents issued by the competent authority under this legislation.
The adoption of the Law "On Telecommunications" lays a strong foundation for the sustainable growth of Uzbekistan’s telecommunications sector. As a critical component of the government’s strategic digitalization program, the Law also provides new conveniences for businesses operating within the sector.
The Law has been approved by the Senate, marking an important step in Uzbekistan's ongoing efforts to modernize its economy and society through digital technologies.
