A delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan led by Deputy Minister of Justice M. Ikramov held a meeting in London with representatives of the UK Department for Business and Trade, Trading Standards, the University of Cambridge, IP House, and the Film Distribution Association.
During the meeting, issues related to the protection of copyright for educational books, textbooks (for example, “English Grammar in Use” by Raymond Murphy), and other materials belonging to the University of Cambridge were discussed.
In addition, representatives of the Ministry of Justice proposed the opening of an official store in Uzbekistan where original copies of books and textbooks published by Cambridge University Press could be purchased.
The event also studied modern methods of identifying counterfeit products through civil society institutions and private enterprises.
At the conclusion of the meeting, agreements were reached to assist in the registration of intellectual property objects belonging to Cambridge University Press, to conduct joint monitoring activities for copyright protection, to enhance the qualifications of local specialists in combating the circulation of counterfeit products, and to strengthen cooperation with leading companies in the cinematography sector.
