A delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by Deputy Minister of Justice M. Ikramov held a meeting in Newport with Adam Williams, Chief Executive of the UK Intellectual Property Office.
The meeting discussed issues such as examining applications for intellectual property objects using modern methods, introducing artificial intelligence technologies into this process, and reducing the timeframes for registering inventions and utility models through mutual recognition of examination decisions by the offices.
The parties also considered prospects for implementing in Uzbekistan projects currently carried out in the UK aimed at commercialization of intellectual property, including "IP partners", "IP Access", and "IP healthcare", which focus on teaching the use of IP, generating additional income, and combating counterfeit products.
Within the framework of the visit, the delegation took part in the “Counterfeit Products Exhibition” identified in the UK market and became acquainted with the activities of the London police unit combating counterfeit product circulation.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to implement joint projects such as organizing a seminar with the London police unit on assessing damage caused to right holders, as well as jointly developing proposals to continue Uzbekistan’s Intellectual Property Strategy for 2022–2026 into the years 2027–2030.
