The Agreement on the Sharing of Confiscated Assets between the two countries was signed on behalf of Uzbekistan by Minister of Justice Akbar Tashkulov on 9 October 2026, and on behalf of Switzerland by Laurence Fontana Jungo, Vice Director of the Federal Office of Justice, on 17 September 2026.
Under the Agreement, approximately USD 21.6 million, previously frozen by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury and released in June this year, is to be returned to Uzbekistan.
The Agreement is a logical continuation of the agreement of the same name signed on 6 February 2025. Under these instruments, a total of USD 204.4 million will be returned to Uzbekistan through the UN “Uzbekistan Vision 2030” Multi-Partner Trust Fund.
It should be noted that the Agreement between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Swiss Confederation of 16 August 2022 on the Modalities of Return of Illegally Acquired Assets Confiscated in the Swiss Confederation for the Benefit of the Population of the Republic of Uzbekistan established the mechanism for returning illegally acquired assets to Uzbekistan through this very Fund, as well as the core principles and objectives of restitution.
Funds returned through the “Uzbekistan Vision 2030” Fund will be used for the benefit of the people of Uzbekistan, with priority given to socially significant projects.
