Protection of Intellectual Property Discussed at the Oliy Majlis

At a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Minister of Justice Akbar Tashkulov presented information on the reforms being implemented in the field of intellectual property.
It was noted that over the past four years, to improve the sector:
16 laws;
25 by-laws;
19 important international treaties were adopted and ratified.
In addition, the justice authorities were granted the authority to inspect and seize counterfeit products, while the customs authorities were empowered to protect intellectual property rights ex officio (on their own initiative).
As a result of these reforms, in the first half of 2026:
the number of patent applications and patents granted increased by 43%;
the number of certificates issued for trademarks, computer programs, and databases increased by 35%.
For the first time, Uzbekistan was removed from the U.S. Trade Representative's Special 301 Watch List and improved its position in the Global Innovation Index, rising from 93rd place in 2020 to 79th place in 2025.
