Independence Day is the main national holiday of Uzbekistan.
On August 31, 1991, at an extraordinary session of the Supreme Council of the Uzbek SSR in Tashkent, the Resolution "On the Declaration of State Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan" and the Law "On the Foundations of State Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan" were adopted. The Resolution stipulated that the Uzbek SSR would be renamed the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Independence Day was celebrated for the first time in 1992.
The entire republic celebrates Independence Day with great joy and enthusiasm. Each region of Uzbekistan prepares its own festive program. No matter where you are on this day, interesting spectacles await you: performances by unique folklore groups, cheerful sports competitions, a variety show, noisy fairs of folk craftsmen. And, of course, what kind of holiday can there be without sweets and delicacies? On this day, festive pilaf is the central dish, families, colleagues, neighbors, and friends gather around the table in abundance.
In the capital of Uzbekistan, preparations for the festivities are made in advance, because the festive show is so bright and large-scale that it leaves one in awe. It involves hundreds of extras, music and dance groups, and bright stars of pop and cinema. And in the evening, a magnificent festive fireworks display takes place over the square.
