The ancient national holiday Navruz is celebrated on March 21 and is considered the beginning of the new year.
As is well known, March 21 marks the spring equinox, when the duration of day and night is equal—12 hours each. In anticipation of this holiday, many Uzbek families prepare traditional dishes such as Sumalak, Halim, Kuk Somsa, Plov, and others. These dishes are rich in vitamins and beneficial to human health.
With the independence of the country, ancient customs and traditions of the Uzbek people were revived, and the celebration of Navruz was restored, gaining new breadth and depth. It has become a nationwide holiday of friendship, unity, and brotherhood among all peoples. Theatrical performances vividly reflect the philosophical and poetic meaning of Navruz and its place in the people's history.
