In recent years, measures have been taken in our country aimed at preventing environmental problems and mitigating the consequences of climate change.
These forest reclamation measures are being carried out jointly with the Forestry Agency under the Ministry of Ecology, the Ministry of Ecology, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, and regional khokimiyats.
In particular, during 2018-2024, "green cover" from seeds and seedlings of desert plants was created on an area of 1 million 865 thousand hectares.
Of these protective forest plantations, 1 million 783 thousand hectares were created from seeds of desert plants, 82 thousand 397 hectares - from seedlings of desert plants.
For these events, about 7.5 thousand tons of saxaul and other desert plant seeds were collected. Saxaul plantations were established on an area of at least 100 hectares per year.
Annually, an average of up to 1000 units of equipment and machinery, aircraft, and motor-dealt-planes are involved.
During the first quarter of this year, measures were taken to create and restore forests on a total area of 126 thousand hectares. Of these, more than 124 thousand hectares belong to the dried bottom of the Aral Sea and the Aral Sea region, and 1.5 thousand hectares to other desert areas.
18 forestry enterprises specialized in seedling production. Forestry enterprises have established nurseries and nurseries on more than 350 hectares.
Also, the cultivation of seedlings in containers with closed roots from species of trees and shrubs adapted to soil and climatic conditions has been established. Currently, 378 thousand seedlings are being planted in special containers (containers, boxes, etc.).
In recent years, the Forestry Agency has been carrying out effective work in cooperation with foreign organizations. In particular, the project "Rehabilitation of degraded forests and other lands" is being implemented jointly with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Within the framework of the project, 45 hectares of forests were planted in the Jondor State Forestry.
In cooperation with the UN Development Programme, a project is being implemented to preserve, manage, and restore lakes, wetlands, and coastal areas.
In cooperation with the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of China, a project is being implemented to plant salt-tolerant halophyte plant species in the desert regions of our country.
In 5 regions of the country - Arnasay, Mubarek, Karakul, Karmana, and Nukus districts - 10 hectares of land have been allocated for the creation of halophyte orchards. Currently, the design processes are continuing.
Significantly, the cultivation of halophytic plants in desert and semi-desert areas reduces soil erosion and salinity, and ensures ecological stability.
Based on the goals and objectives defined in the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated February 7 of this year "On the State Program for the Implementation of the "Uzbekistan - 2030" Strategy in the "Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy," the Forestry Agency has defined systemic measures to expand the territory of forests in our country, increase the level of greenery and prevent desertification.
