Uzbekistan–China Cooperation in Combating Desertification is Expanding

The event was attended by Forestry Agency Director Erkin Mukhiddinov, Deputy Director Golibjon Qurbonov, representative of the Ningxia Forestry and Grassland Administration of China Chan Yong, Rector of Green University Bakhtiyor Pulatov, as well as officials of the Agency and representatives of affiliated organizations.
Speaking at the seminar, Erkin Mukhiddinov emphasized that cooperation with China in combating desertification, restoring degraded lands, preventing soil erosion, and planting halophyte species resistant to drought and salinity is steadily strengthening.
“In turn, today’s event will contribute to strengthening long-term cooperation between the two countries in such important areas as environmental protection, climate resilience, the introduction of green technologies, combating desertification, and sustainable development in the forestry sector. Our joint efforts with our Chinese partners in this field will continue consistently in the future,” said E. Mukhiddinov.
During the event, Chinese experts delivered a presentation exhibition showcasing China’s advanced experience in combating desertification, as well as innovative technologies and practical solutions for the reclamation of saline lands and the efficient use of land resources.
Chan Yong noted that Uzbekistan is demonstrating significant initiative in combating desertification and ensuring environmental sustainability.
“This is particularly evident in increasing green coverage, restoring degraded lands, and combating desertification,” he said. “Today, planting desert vegetation plays an important role in addressing issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and threats to environmental sustainability. Uzbekistan is drawing global attention to these important matters.”
It is worth noting that special attention was also given during the seminar to promoting desertification control as one of the priority areas of regional cooperation within the framework of China–Central Asia collaboration, ensuring environmentally sustainable development, and broadly implementing the principles
