The event was attended by Erkin Muhiddinov, Director of the Forestry Agency; Abbate Asferachew, Senior Environmental Specialist at the World Bank; Botir Mamedov, Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC); Shamammet Sarykhanov, Head of the Forestry Department of the Ministry of Environment of Turkmenistan; Daurbek Sakiyev, Director of the Monitoring and Forecasting Department under the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan; as well as experts from the UN Convention to Combat Desertification and media representatives.
Environmental challenges, land degradation, and the impacts of climate change in Central Asia are steadily increasing.
During the event, Erkin Muhiddinov provided information on the systematic efforts being carried out in our country to expand green areas, prevent desertification, and establish forests.
“It should be noted that preventing desertification and land degradation is a global challenge today. Countries in the region must work together in creating ‘green belts’ and ‘green cover’. It is clear that the impacts of climate change do not recognize borders,” said Muhiddinov.
At the conclusion, it was emphasized that all parties are interested in establishing systematic cooperation in the future.
