A bilateral meeting was held in Samarkand within the framework of CITES COP20 between the National Committee of Ecology, the Forest Agency and international experts from FAO in order to further strengthen cooperation in forest and landscape restoration.

During the meeting, the participants discussed identifying Uzbekistan’s priority needs for forest and landscape restoration to develop the work plan and budget for the project of the Korea Forest Service, FAO’s efforts in forest restoration in Uzbekistan—particularly initiatives to restore ecosystems on the dried-up Aral Sea bed—and showcasing these efforts through the State of the World’s Forests 2026 report, which includes a special applied study on Aral Sea restoration.
The parties also agreed to expand cooperation on sustainable forest management and landscape restoration in Uzbekistan.
The meeting was attended by the First Deputy Director of the Forest Agency, Gofurjon Qarshiboyev.
