UZBEKISTAN’S ACCESSION TO THE WTO: ANOTHER IMPORTANT MEETING

Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan, met with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
During the meeting, the progress of Uzbekistan’s accession to the organization, as well as the final tasks facing the country, were discussed.
For reference: Uzbekistan’s accession process to the WTO gained new momentum in 2023. Since then, negotiations have intensified, and as of July 2026, 13 meetings of the Working Party on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO have been held.
To date, bilateral negotiations on market access have been launched with 35 WTO member states, while negotiations with 33 countries have been completed. In addition, nearly 200 national legislative documents have been brought into compliance with WTO rules and principles.
I express my gratitude to Ms. Okonjo-Iweala for her continued support and expert assistance. We have come a long way, and it is now crucial that we maintain our momentum and bring the work we have started to completion, said S. Mirziyoyeva.
Membership in the WTO is a path toward new opportunities. This process is an important step toward further integrating Uzbekistan’s economy into the international trading system.
