Exemplary Families Honoured in Nukus to Mark International Day of Families
NUKUS — A high-profile event dedicated to the International Day of Families was hosted at the Khokimiyat (Municipality) of Nukus City, celebrating the core values of family and community integration.
The ceremony was attended by key municipal officials, including Deputy Khokims M. Kannazarov and J. Otejanov, alongside Zulfiya Dawletnazarova, Head of the Department for Family and Women’s Affairs, who extended their congratulations to the attendees.
Background Note: The International Day of Families is observed globally on 15 May each year. The initiative originates from a United Nations General Assembly resolution adopted on 20 September 1993, which officially designated the annual observance starting from 1994.
The family is widely regarded as a sacred institution—a "state within a state"—where individuals shape their initial worldview, receive fundamental education and values, and learn to interact with society. This reflects the profound local proverbs: "A strong family is the bedrock of society" and "A healthy family ensures a healthy nation."
Under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan, significant emphasis has been placed in recent years on elevating the role of families in public life. State policy focuses on providing comprehensive social, economic, and spiritual support, instilling patriotism and family values in the younger generation, and strengthening unity and mutual respect within households.
Recent systematic reforms, driven by presidential decrees and resolutions, have introduced targeted financial support for young couples and established a door-to-door assessment mechanism in local neighborhoods (mahallas) to address household grievances rapidly. Current state initiatives also heavily prioritize fostering family entrepreneurship, improving living standards, and reducing poverty. The introduction of the prestigious "Ibratli Shańaraq" (Exemplary Family) badge and the "Exemplary Family" national contest stand as prominent examples of these ongoing efforts.
The event concluded with the official presentation of the "Ibratli Shańaraq" (Exemplary Family) badges to several outstanding couples from various neighborhoods in Nukus:
