The implemented joint projects of the FAO were discussed, aimed at increasing adaptation in conditions of climate change, the fight against land degradation, loss of productivity and biodiversity.
The first deputy general director of the organization emphasized that in recent years, Uzbekistan has been contributing to the development of important initiatives and documents in the region, proactive participation in the implementation of grant projects with the involvement of the Global Ecological Fund (GEF).
For reference: at present, together with the FAO, 5 projects are implemented totaling 25.2 million dollars financed by the GEF.
Also, he greeted the initiative of the country's leadership to mitigate the consequences of the environmental disaster of the Aral Sea.
The Oonov side noted the readiness to provide assistance for the implementation of the project aimed at maintaining biodiversity and sustainable management of genetic resources of plants in accordance with the Cartagenic Protocol.
An agreement was reached to promote the project application in the amount of 6.4 million dollars. School to attract grant funds of the GEF in the framework of the 8th financing cycle (2022-2026).
At the same time, the parties are emphasized by the interest of cooperation on the implementation of projects from the global allocation of GEF, on the cross -border management of water resources, as well as the safety management of persistent organic pollutants (SAS).
The delegation visited the thematic launge zone "Uzbekistan" at the headquarters of the FAO. In turn, T. Laurent praised the creation of a traditional and at the same time modern Uzbek hall in the FAO building, calling him one of the most favorite places among employees.
At the end of the meeting, the representatives of the FAO were invited to the upcoming UN events of a high level to combat desertification and drought, as well as the preservation of migrating species of wild animals, which will take place in the fall of this year in the city of Samarkand.
