A practical-demonstration seminar dedicated to the reclamation of degraded pasturelands, the establishment of primary seed plantations of pasture plants typical for desert zones, and the gradual greening of rangelands was held in the “Bo‘ston” mahalla, located in the Avazcho‘l plains, 30 kilometers from the center of Mirishkor district.
The event was attended by the district hokim Fayzullo G‘ulomov, representatives of research institutions from Bukhara and Samarkand regions, professors and teachers, head of the regional Pasture Management Department of Kashkadarya region Furqat Tursunov, head of the Turkmen National Cultural Center and recipient of the “Dostlik” Order Umrzoq Kuvvatov, deputy of the Regional Council and head of “G‘ofur G‘ulom” livestock LLC Ne’mat Jumaqulov, as well as heads of 10 LLCs operating in the field of pasture livestock farming, representatives of mahallas and the Ecological Party, nearly 500 specialists and media representatives.
In Mirishkor district, a large-scale ecological–agrobotanical project aimed at restoring desert landscapes is being implemented by the Bukhara Scientific-Production Center for Seed Production of Forage Desert Plants, operating under the Committee for the Development of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Last year, 1,000 hectares of land were reclaimed, and this year—with the involvement of volunteers and the local community—an additional 1,000 hectares were sown with seeds of 14 valuable perennial desert plant species listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Uzbekistan, including saxaul, karagan, cherkes, iloq, izen, kovrak, chug‘an, and other rare representatives of desert flora. These efforts contribute to increasing the region’s pasture potential, forming a natural barrier against wind erosion, and creating a sustainable fodder base for livestock farming.
During the seminar, scientific and practical developments in pasture management, various preparations, seed production technologies of desert plants, and agro-technical measures were demonstrated. Exhibitions on camel breeding, horse breeding, sheep breeding, hunting, agricultural machinery, as well as displays of local national dishes were also organized, providing participants with comprehensive information.
It is worth noting that this initiative serves as an important step toward ensuring environmental sustainability, restoring the natural resource potential of desert landscapes, and developing pasture livestock farming based on modern scientific approaches in Mirishkor district.
