The ancient and ever-young city of Margilan, with its two-thousand-year history, today once again hosted a prestigious event. In the city’s central Creators’ Park, the International Maqam Festival “Great Silk Road” – a celebration of friendship and art – was held with great enthusiasm.
During the competition within the festival, artists from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and various regions of our country skillfully performed maqams in different styles. Each performance was duly evaluated by the jury. At the solemn award ceremony, Deputy Governor of the region Khurshidjon Akhmedov read out the congratulatory message of Regional Governor Khayrullo Bozorov to the festival participants.
“The fact that the international music festival is hosted by Margilan – the birthplace of world-famous masters such as Jurakhon Sultonov, the revered master of ‘katta ashula,’ the famous dancer Tamarakhonim, the folk singer Mamurjon Uzoqov, and the great wordsmith Yusufjon Qiziq Shakarjonov – carries a deeply symbolic meaning. Maqam art, a symbol of our ancient history, rich culture, and eternal values, occupies an important place in our spiritual life with its profound philosophical roots, unique artistic style, and rich creative traditions,” – the message noted.
Afterwards, the active participants and skilled performers of the festival were awarded diplomas and commemorative gifts by the regional administration. At the conclusion of the festival, a concert program featuring artistic ensembles and renowned performers gave the audience an even more festive spirit.
