Botir Zokirov — the founder of Uzbek pop music, a multifaceted creator who has truly created a marvel in the world of art. His invaluable contributions to the Uzbek people will never be forgotten. At the initiative of the President, in 2022, the "Botir Zokirov Institute of National Estrada Art" was established at the Uzbekistan State Conservatory in the capital, Tashkent.
Prominent artists work at the institute, including Farrukh Zokirov, Mansur Toshmatov, Gavhar Zokirova, Alisher Ikramov, Dilorum Omonullayeva, Yunus Torayev, Kozim Kayumov, Gulgina Zokirova, and many others who impart their knowledge and skills to the talented youth. The rector of the institute is Professor Avaz Mansurov, a distinguished cultural figure of Uzbekistan.
"Our institute has highly intelligent, talented, and active students. We plan to host international competitions in Estrada music named after Botir Zokirov, introduce state scholarships for students, create artistic films, and provide comprehensive support for the activities of the National Estrada Symphonic Orchestra. All of these efforts are aimed at student development. I believe that thanks to the attention of our president, our students will become more responsible and motivated. Here, all doors are open — only hard work remains," says the People's Artist of Uzbekistan, Professor Gavhar Zokirova.
The institute is designed for 500 students. Currently, nearly 500 students are enrolled in undergraduate programs, including vocal performance, instrumental performance, musicology, composition, conducting, estrada singing, and postgraduate programs.
Students have access to a 140-seat concert hall, a library filled with over 8,200 musical and artistic works, and modern equipment and resource centers. The institute has a cafeteria with 40 seats and 62 classrooms. The academic staff comprises 69 people (full-time): 8 professors, 11 associate professors, and 18 senior lecturers who teach in both Uzbek and Russian languages.
"Our institute has established a tradition of mentorship. Our faculty are professionals in their fields, and we learn from their example in terms of communication, pedagogy, and professionalism. We instill in our students a love for the arts. Our teachers demonstrate that every artist should not only be a singer but also an actor, interacting with the audience. Acting skills help artists live with their music and transmit this energy to the audience. Botir Zokirov’s example proves this, as he was not only a singer but also a radio director and actor in films," says Sevara Tulanova, a student of the institute and winner of the Botir Zokirov Republic Singing Competition.
We have witnessed how the efforts initiated here are starting to bear fruit. Many students from the institute participate in international competitions, such as X-Factor, The Voice, and Artist, which are broadcast on television. These include: Kamron Mamadaliyev, Sevara Tulanova, Malika Hakimova, Anna Arkhipova, Musagali Moldabaev, Regina Nazarova, Umiida Kazakbayeva, Raihon Madzhidova, Sardor Shavkatov, Nurillo Abdullayev, Ruxsora Sobirova, and many other talented students who have achieved high results.
