Yesterday, within the framework of the cooperation memorandum signed between the Ministry of Culture and the "Chamber for the Protection of the Copyrights of Artists, Creators, and Performers," a seminar was held for the heads and chief accountants of theaters in the ministry’s system. The goal of the seminar was to establish legal usage of stage works, form a repertoire base of works being used, and implement a system for paying copyright fees to rights holders for the use of works.
During the seminar, the international documents added to the Republic of Uzbekistan’s copyright and related rights field were discussed, including the Berne Convention on the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, the Geneva Convention on the Protection of the Rights of Phonogram Producers Against Unauthorized Reproduction, the World Intellectual Property Organization's Copyright Treaty, and the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty. These treaties were explained in the context of protecting the rights and interests of authors and other rights holders on an international scale.
Furthermore, explanations were given about the Government of Uzbekistan’s decree No. 10 from January 19, 2008, regarding the minimum rates of copyright fees for certain types of use of literary and artistic works, as well as the Presidential Decree PQ-3201 from August 14, 2017, on further development of cultural and artistic organizations, creative associations, and media outlets, and the creation of additional conditions to motivate professionals in the field.
Discussions were held on the state-legal policy directions regarding copyright enforcement and solutions to sectoral issues. Emphasis was placed on the importance of respecting authors to create valuable works and ensuring the fulfillment of their rights. Agreements were made to organize similar seminars with theater teams in the future.
