New System for Professional Skills Development Introduced in Mining and Geology Sectors

The University of Geological Sciences hosted a two-day training seminar dedicated to the development of professional qualifications in the fields of mining, geology, and mineral resources. The event was organized jointly by the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Employment, and the Institute for the Development of the National Qualifications System.
The dialogue brought together experts from the ministry, sectoral scientific and educational institutions, and leading enterprise representatives. Participants discussed the implementation of the National Qualifications System and the alignment of occupational standards with modern production needs. Particular emphasis was placed on improving training, retraining, and professional development mechanisms, as well as expanding dual education and strengthening ties between academia and industry.
During the operational session, procedures for assessing the professional competencies of middle management and establishing a personnel reserve were examined. Measures were also outlined to set up training grounds, industrial practice sites, and modern laboratories for student internships directly at enterprise facilities. The event concluded with the definition of priority tasks for training highly skilled personnel and advancing practice-oriented education.
These systemic measures will enhance the role of human capital in advancing the national mineral resource base. Adapting qualification standards to real industry demands ensures greater operational efficiency across sector enterprises and mitigates the risk of qualified labor shortages.
