Another important step has been taken in the export of Uzbekistan’s agricultural products. Fresh apricots, plums, and nectarines grown in our country, as well as unshelled walnuts and almonds, can now be exported to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
To make this possible, the Plant Quarantine and Protection Agency of Uzbekistan held negotiations with the Egyptian side and obtained phytosanitary permits for the specified products.
Before shipment, the products undergo phytosanitary inspection to confirm their phytosanitary safety and the absence of pests of quarantine significance for Egypt. In accordance with international requirements, each shipment is issued a phytosanitary certificate in compliance with ISPM No. 7 and ISPM No. 12 standards.
Egypt is one of the largest consumer markets in Africa and the Middle East, with a population of more than 110 million. The demand for fruit and vegetable products exists year-round, and Egypt imports hundreds of thousands of tons of fresh produce annually.
Uzbekistan is carrying out targeted efforts to expand exports to Egypt. In 2024, agricultural products were supplied to this country for the first time.
As of today, based on the phytosanitary certificate, 25 types of products can be exported to Egypt, including cherries, grapes, apples, pomegranates, apricots, plums, nectarines, unshelled walnuts and almonds, as well as 17 types of dried products.
Obtaining phytosanitary permits for new types of products provides Uzbekistan with the opportunity to expand its export geography, create a “bridge” to enter the markets of the Middle East and Africa, and extend the sales season for agricultural products.
Entering the Egyptian market with new types of products is not only an economic benefit for Uzbek exporters but also an opportunity to enhance the country’s reputation in the international market. The next step is to ensure the supply of high-quality, competitive, and safe products.
