The storyline explores Marjani’s childhood and formative years, particularly his studies in Bukhara and Samarkand—major centers of Islamic learning in the 19th century. The first scenes are being shot at one of Bukhara’s historic madrasahs, providing an authentic backdrop for the historical narrative.
According to the creative team, the film aims to highlight the deep-rooted scholarly and cultural ties between Central Asia and the Volga region. Through Marjani’s personal journey, the audience will gain insight into the intellectual climate of the Muslim East and the role of education in shaping reformist thought.
Shigabutdin Marjani (1818–1889) is widely regarded as a key figure in Islamic theology, philosophy, history, and pedagogy. His years of study in Bukhara and Samarkand played a decisive role in shaping his worldview and scholarly approach. These experiences form the core of the film’s historical and artistic concept.
The production involves creative teams from both countries, supported by historians and cultural experts to ensure historical accuracy. Uzbekistan’s architectural heritage and ancient urban landscapes are expected to feature prominently, enhancing the film’s visual authenticity.
Filmmakers emphasize that The Teacher is more than a historical biography. It is intended to convey timeless values such as the pursuit of knowledge, respect for mentors, and spiritual growth—messages particularly relevant for younger generations today. The film is designed for a broad international audience.
The premiere of The Teacher is scheduled for 2026. The project is expected to contribute significantly to strengthening cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Uzbekistan and Tatarstan, while promoting their shared historical heritage on a global stage.
