The forum brought together compatriots residing in the Gulf countries — the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait and Oman — along with representatives of Uzbek communities and young people studying overseas. Discussions focused on the role of expatriates in Uzbekistan’s development and ways to effectively harness their professional knowledge and experience.
Speaking at the forum, Q. Sariyev, Chairman of the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Compatriots Abroad, highlighted the new approaches being implemented under the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to support and protect compatriots abroad. He emphasized that current reforms aim to move beyond formal engagement toward meaningful cooperation.
Participants were briefed on Uzbekistan’s large-scale reforms, emerging opportunities, a favorable investment climate and conditions for doing business. Particular attention was paid to engaging the expertise of compatriots in key sectors such as the economy, science, education and innovation.
The forum also addressed issues related to preserving the Uzbek language and culture abroad, expanding the involvement of expatriates in scientific and innovative activities, and strengthening economic ties and investment cooperation. Compatriots put forward a number of forward-looking proposals reflecting their commitment to the development of New Uzbekistan.
It was noted that regional forums of compatriots have become an effective mechanism for open and continuous dialogue. Earlier this year, similar forums were held in the European Union, the United States, Canada and CIS countries, resulting in more than 200 proposals and initiatives from Uzbek citizens abroad.
