A highlight of the week was the photo exhibition “Uzbekistan — Land of Tolerance” held at the Tashkent House of Photography. The event gathered representatives from the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Foreign Communities, the Committee on Religious Affairs, national cultural centers, friendship societies, religious organizations, and the media.
Opening the exhibition, Deputy Chairman of the Committee Olim Narzullaev emphasized:
“Tolerance and solidarity are the foundation of peace and stability in Uzbekistan. Such exhibitions strengthen bonds of friendship between nations and nurture the younger generation in the spirit of humanity and respect.”
More than 100 photographs showcased the lives, traditions, and cultures of Uzbekistan’s many ethnic groups, as well as collaborative projects between cultural centers and the Committee.
Today, over 130 ethnic groups and 16 religious denominations live together peacefully in Uzbekistan — a country long recognized as a crossroads of civilizations and a model of coexistence.
Since 1997, the United Nations has designated November 16 as the International Day for Tolerance. In Uzbekistan, it has become a well-established tradition to celebrate this occasion with “Tolerance Week,” reflecting the nation’s commitment to peace and diversity.
Running from November 10 to 15, the program features cultural performances, exhibitions, conferences, sports events, and social projects across all regions and the capital city.
“Tolerance Week” is more than a celebration — it is a call for unity, peace, and respect among all people, embodying the values that have long defined Uzbekistan’s society.
