On Citizens’ Rights to Access State Information
The right of citizens to access state information is guaranteed by the current legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Ensuring openness and transparency in the activities of state bodies and organizations is one of the key conditions for the realization of this right.
Citizens have the right, in accordance with established procedures, to obtain information created by state bodies and organizations, as well as information related to their activities.
The legal framework governing citizens’ rights to access state information includes:
– The Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
– The Law “On Mass Media”;
– The Law “On the Principles and Guarantees of Freedom of Information”;
– The Law “On Guarantees and Freedom of Access to Information”;
– Decisions of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan aimed at ensuring the independence of mass media and developing information services of state bodies and organizations.
State bodies are obliged to provide information to citizens in compliance with the principles of legality, reliability, openness, and efficiency.
In accordance with the law, state secrets, official secrets, personal data, and other legally protected information are classified as restricted information.
These provisions serve to ensure citizens’ right to access information and to enhance transparency in the system of public administration.
